Enjoy it while it lasts because it won't.

Oh you lucky woman. Don't be too impressed though mine did this till 4 weeks then made up for it big time. Bank that sleep now!

OK - firstly, a disclaimer. I am not medically qualified and I think constant sleepiness can be a sign of jaundice which would need checking out.

My personal experience: DD slept all the time - about 23.5 hours a day - for the first 2/3 weeks! I was both scared and, frankly, pissed off. People used to come round and look at her and I would try and prod her into even moving about a bit in her sleep and she was having none of it. It was honestly just like having a small and (if I'm being honest) not particularly attractive doll.

The visiting MW/HV confirmed there was no jaundice or dehydration and told me to just "enjoy her". Huh? I wanted to pick her up and cuddle my ickle baby but she was always completely asleep. We just used to mover her from room to room, fast asleep (DH said she was like his very old family cat!)

DD is now nearly 4. She has crazy curly hair, talks a lot, eats anything and everything and is fizzing with energy. Rather annoyingly she has never been a particularly good sleeper!

So I will say...enjoy it while it lasts!

beansontoast,

Make sure you wake her for feedings. Other than that I think your good for now.

Anchovy · 08/08/2007 09:57

LOL - I remember there are whole swathes of clothes that DD was bought which she never wore because she was fast asleep during the window that she was the right size!

I would judt look at the jaundice/dehydration angle, but otherwise it sounds exactly like DD. We have very few photos of her early weeks as she never did anything!

beansontoast · 08/08/2007 10:02

she does have the slightest twinge of jaundice that is fading .the midwife saw her yesterday and thought she was fine (of course i didnt think to mention her sleep to a professional!!)

Agree re Jandice.

DS2 had v slight jaundice, which made him sleepy, but which required nio more treatment than to make sure he got plenty of day light (so lots of walks!)

Other than that he was just a sleepy baby. He slept through the night at 6 weeks and has NEVER woken in the night since (he's 11 months now)

[smug]

I know that comment will come bcak and bit me on the arse. He'll probably scream non stop in the wee small hours now. (it was comensation as DS1 is still a terrible sleeper at 2.8)
