Hi all, just wondering at what age your children first starting using a pillow and duvet? Thanks!

6 months when we went from a crib to a cot

20 months when she stopped sleeping well in the sleeping bag

NewAccount270219 · 01/09/2019 14:08

Following as have been wondering the same - DS is 14 months and growing out of his 6-18 month Grobags and I was wondering whether to replace them with a bigger size of sleeping bag or try a duvet. I think he moves around in his sleep far too much though - I can't see how he'd stay under a blanket and I'm not massively up for getting up to put it back on all night!

Blanket at a year old and a quit/ duvet at 18months. Now 2 years old we are about to add a pillow.

My DS is 2 next month and is still in a sleeping bag. Plan to move him into a toddler bed in the next few months so will give him a pillow and duvet then (he's only moving beds because we need the cot for no2, otherwise would leave him there a bit longer)

DS1 cant remember, but got both at the same time.
DS2 18 months when he climbed out of his cot and went into a bed.

@NewAccount270219 genuine question, why would you need to get up to keep putting a quilt over your DS? If he's cold I'm sure he will get the blanket himself.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/09/2019 17:42

Northie sorry to jump in but my 2 year old cries in her sleep if her quilt is off her and she’s cold. Some nights I’m up 2-3 times.

Both are ok from 1 year. My 2 had a pillow from age 1 but dd was 18 months when she got a duvet and ds was 2 and a half as he was still in a sleeping bag until then

You can get duvet clips to keep the duvet on

Hmm, this is interesting, maybe I'm underestimating him? I would say his understanding is about average for 14 months even quite good, but I wouldn't think he'd get that if he was cold he would pull his blanket back over. He happily pulls his socks off even though his feet will then get cold and pulls his hat off and then cries that the sun is in his eyes so I figured he couldn't yet understand the causation well enough to do this?

DS got his when he moved to a bed at about 21 months

DD is still in the cot at 23 months, and I don’t see her moving anytime soon. but I didn’t have a big enough sleeping bag for her and didn’t want to buy a new set so she got a duvet and at about 21 months too. She had a pillow a little earlier - probably about 18 m as she was always lying on her brothers

She will cry in the night if the duvet comes off and she’s not happy about it (half the time she’s out of it anyway and doesn’t seem to care). It is annoying so I wouldn’t necessarily make the switch if you don’t need to
