8 year old ds Jekyll/Hyde

Hi,

My ds, just 8 , has turned into Jekyll and Hyde. One minute he’s the sweet, funny and helpful kid he normally is, then as quick as a flash he’s making a tantrum of epic proportions, with wailing, stomping, slamming doors, etc.

Clearly there’s something developmental or hormonal going on cos I know a fair few kids of this age are having similar outbursts. Question is, how do I deal with it?

I know I’m taking some of it personally and feel embarrassed when it happens in public. I also have a tendency to shout (but he was jumping up and down on my cars back bumper yesterday morning to show off, for which he got told to never stand on my car again. By lunchtime today he planted his floor on the side of the car as he was dramatically wrenching the car door open.) It’s just like he has no filter and is unable to see it is happening and therefore all the good chats in the world aren’t going to help and it feels like sanctions won’t either. I really are at a complete loss and am getting upset by all the arguing. Ds2 is also getting affected by it all too and ending up tears more.

Any ideas or strategies?
