Hi, for a number of years i have wanted to go college to study accountancy. I would only being doing it part time as i would also be working full time. I am currently on maternity leave with my 6 month year old and will be going back to work soon. I Love my job but there isnt much career progression.

Going back to college to get a qualification in accountancy would open up my career in so many directions, the one thing that is holding me back is that im in my 30s plus the course is two nights a week which would take me away from my little one. Would it be selfish of me to want to go back to college and be away from my Little one at such a young age?

When I read "newborn" I thought you meant a six week old or something. I don't think there's anything hugely controversial about leaving a six month old for two nights a week - probably tiring for you, on top of dealing with a baby, and how difficult it would be to leave them probably depends a lot on the baby. But I think this is feasible. It would also be good for all of you in the long run, so certainly not selfish. (Although I think we're all entitled to a degree of selfishness! Obviously the baby's needs come first, but you don't have to entirely sacrifice every last piece of yourself to them. But a course that is going to improve your career prospects doesn't really seem like a selfish thing to do to me!)
