Infant with a very hot head

Hi everyone,

My 3 week old niece has a very hot head but the rest of her body is fine. She has been very restless and hasn't slept all night and cries a lot. We're all worried that she's fallen ill. What do you guys think it could be? Should we take her to emergency?

Thank you

If the rest of her body is fine (do parents have a thermometer), it's probably fine. My son had an incredibly hot and sweaty head as a newborn, and still does now at 2

And if worried, always always ring 111 not ask Mumsnet

PS restless/ not sleeping, sounds like a normal newborn

Take her temperature with a thermometer, this will answer your question. GP always happy to see tiny babies, but surely the answer here is to just take her temp?

My 6 month old is the same, hot and sweaty head. My arm is damp when he’s finished feeding

@Areallthegoodnamesgone does your son still get his head hot/warm? Or do they grow out of it? Mine does when he is excited and I wonder if it’s that.
