Introducing breastfed baby to bottles

Hi everyone, first-timer here 🙂

My little girl is 1 month old and I have breastfed from the start. It’s gone pretty well although she has always been a bit of a snacker I.e. feeding little and often. I have just started expressing (1 week ago) and trying to get her used to bottles so husband can give occasional feeds. She has been taking them but only tiny amounts, say 10-15 mls then just stops feeding from them. I’d heard that sometimes they will take more anyway when mum isn’t around and yesterday I was out for a couple of hours and she was with her dad. She screamed the whole time, took tiny bit from the bottle despite being clearly hungry and refused more.

Does anyone have any tips for getting her used to bottles? Any brand of bottles that would be recommended? I have tried Tommee Tippee and Philips Avent, she seems to slightly prefer Philips but not by much.

Any advice much appreciated 🙂

Buy bottles where the test resembles a nipple.

You tend to find the branded bottles, especially TT, have very short and firm teats whereas a BF is used to having a long and soft nipple in their mouth.

In my experience babies respond better to own brand, cheap, supermarket bottles because their tears are made of soft plastic, are usually quite lengthy, and due to how soft they are the baby is able to mould it better in their mouth in replication of the shape of your nipple.

Sorry for all the typos - I am incredibly sleep deprived. I hope my post still made sense.

Ok that’s interesting, thank you. Will certainly look to try a supermarket own-brand one.
