Gallows Traction 5MO

Just after some advice.
my 5 month old has been on traction in hospital for 11 days now (she has a fractured femur as we had a nasty fall down the stairs. it's been just awful, the worst 11 days of my life)
and today the doctor hoped we would see some healing and she could be placed in a harness to come home.
but she was still in a lot of pain so he had said traction for another week.
has any one got any experience of this type of care and how long their little one stayed in traction for?
I've just been told so many times that babies heal quicker than adults and obviously was devastated when she was still in agony today.
I want to ask for an X ray and double check that the bone is healing but that would again put her in pain during the X ray. I'm not sure whether to give it another week or just seek the X ray now to double check.
any advice on the matter would be so helpful, I'm pulling my hair out and all I want to do is cuddle my baby but I can't.
I'm exhausted and anxious constantly. not to mention living in hospital isn't the most fun.
