I'm so upset! I took my 2.5 year old to the doctors because I suspected a water infection and the doctor found protein in his urine (only slightly) and his blood sugar levels were 8.2. He told me not to worry but said that's high and he wants to see him again next week. He's had a day with grandma today and she is a sucker for treating him(!), which of course if fine within reason but now I'm looking at his diet and I feel so conscious he eats a lot of fruit which is full of sugars and he has desserts after his meals and I don't know where to start now to try and reduce it all! Any ideas/suggestions at all?

Sugar free jelly. Made up in little pots. Or just phase out the dessert.

Yogurt is my go-to. Full fat for flavour, unfortunately for a child fromage frais is often sweetened. Strawberries are surprisingly low in sugar for a fruit and cream is ok too. Fruit grown in this county is better for low sugar generally than exotic fruit or oranges - if it grows in lots of sunshine it is generally sweeter. Grapes and bananas are really bad. Sugar-free jelly is an option. I found dairy-free ice cream that was pretty low sugar too (halo top I think it was - made from coconut milk)

Tell grandma,
ask her not to give him any junky treats, junky desserts or drinks - and say you are doing the same

Much better to cut out sweet junk than unprocessed fruit
