Does anyone have a child who competitively races go karts? From what age did they start and how did you get into it?

Young child is showing a very keen interest but no one in the family has any experience.

My dd is 7. She started at 5 in electric karts and 6 in petrol- 6 is generally the youngest they will let them in a petrol cart.

She had lessons at the local track and had to pass these to gain her license and now races in a club.

It is expensive though 😰

I'm assuming the child has already driven plenty of laps at a go-kart track to know they want to race? If so just ask at the track you go to about how to get into it, they are your best source of local knowledge.
