At the end of my tether, 18mo and "teething" for 2+ months?

Hello,

Feeling totally crap today, another day where we stayed in and had a hard time with 18mo DS. He's not been himself since we went away to Cornwall in June. I initially put it down to teething, he has all of his teeth apart from the 4 second molars so I thought it must be them (he's got all of his teeth early)

His symptoms -

  • Extremely dribbly, pouring out and dripping off his chin most of the time.
  • Poking fingers in mouth and sometimes objects.
  • Very cranky, short fuse (I know this is toddlers, but its extreme)
  • Refusing to eat, pushing away food or spitting it out / throwing it or sometimes just ignoring it.
  • Very very clingy to me, not interested in his Dad at all at the moment.
  • Wants ALOT of sleep, he has always been a sleepy baby but we're talking 13 hours at night and then another 2h morning nap and 2h afternoon nap, and he still seems tired!

I keep expecting to see teeth erupting but so far nothing and its all really come to a head this week, with him being super super cranky and hard to handle, and all he has eaten today was 1 pancake this morning, everything else has been chucked and I have gotten so stressed out I've given myself a bloody UTI.

I've booked a doctors appointment for Wednesday [for him! not my UTI], fully expecting to be told I'm being ridiculous and he is just teething. But does anyone know if there is anything else that could cause this?

Thanks and please be gentle Blush

Any signs of thrush in his mouth? That was my first thought.

Firstly, UTIs aren't caused by stress

Secondly, toddlerhood and teeth is so hard. I feel you. My 16mo has just got 4 canines and 4 molars in the last 8 weeks and it's been hell. This will pass. Doctors is good just to make sure there's nothing else to do! Is he dosed up with calpol and ibuprofen?

@ShutTheFridgeUp I've had a good look in there with a torch and I can't see anything abnormal, I keep looking in hope of teeth poking through but alas nothing.

Watermelon, cucumber or ice lollies made with fresh juice? Avocado?

Just keep offering all soft foods even icecream or yoghurt.

I hope he comes round soon. Do his ears look ok?

poopcollector101 · 10/08/2019 18:45

@EAIOU He has been touching them a lot, but he tends to do that when he's tired (always atm) but good shout.

We've got all the teething remedies down, our fav is frozen washcloth and ambesol.

Have you tried calpol/nurofen?

poopcollector101 · 10/08/2019 18:51

@PreschoolPlease yes, it makes little to no difference.
