Cuddle to sleep

I’m sure this has been done before but I could do with some reassurance and advice! My little boy is 5 weeks old today and has bad reflux, colic and recently been treated for a cows milk allergy. His feeding is better on new milk but he will not sleep anywhere other than on my or my husbands chest.
He will sleep for a good 3/4 hours at night like this, feed and burp and will go back off for the same period. In the day he wants to be held but also likes been on his play mat and kicking around. Sometimes he will sleep in his bouncy chair but not often.
Are we ok letting him sleep like this? I know we need a bedtime routine but after having hours of screaming day and night the relief is immense. Are we creating issues for later down the road? Help!

At 5 weeks you don’t need a bedtime routine at all! It is not sustainable for you and your DH to spend half the night each awake though. Look up how to cosleep safely.

I agree with PP about safe co-sleeping. I don’t think ‘creating issues’ is the problem here - I’m not by no means super rigid about safe sleep guidelines - my DS slept in his bouncy chair a lot as well - but regularly sleeping on your chest at night for hours when you’re both tired is definitely not safe (in the day when your reasonably alert, no problem in my opinion). You definitely don’t need a bed time routine yet, I just reccomend dimming/turning off the lights late evening to help him learn to distinguish between night and day.

Thank you! I think in the fog we were thankful of some quiet but have looked at the lullaby trust and will start tonight with the co sleeping.
