Should I worry about baby’s development?

Hi, so my daughter is 8 months old in 6 days, she started sitting up assisted quite early, around 6 months old she could sit up for a few seconds but then fall, by 6 and a half months she could sit up unassisted for long periods... she has always hated tummy time, I do try and put her on her tummy as much as I can but she just buries her face into the couch/floor/bed and cries and cries, I try leaving her for a couple minutes and holding toys in front of her etc. But she just cries and gets really upset but is fine once I pick her up into the sitting position, because she hates being on her tummy she also won’t roll, she sleeps on her side at night and I have seen her roll onto her tummy before but she just won’t roll, when on her belly she shows no signs of wanting to crawl, she can lift her head up well but won’t attempt to move at all, she can bear weight on her feet really well, she won’t physically pull herself up on things or even try to pull herself up, but holding my hands she will stand amazing and will pull herself up when holding my hands, also she will hold onto the couch stood up if I put her there, she also doesn’t copy expressions? She doesn’t point or wave or stick her tongue out when I do etc.. she has started clapping when copying us, I just don’t know wether to be worried, I have friends who have babies the same age and all there babies are crawling etc..

I don't have experience of this but you might want to report your post and ask for it to be moved to Parenting or a busier topic. This one will be quiet and won't get many replies. Good luck with your little one Flowers

OP sounds entirely normal for an 8 month old. My 12 month old does not do some of the things you are worrying about - he is dc3 and seems to me to be an entirely normal baby. Two of my dc crawled one when straight to walking - no idea why. One of the crawlers (dc1) rolled a lot first the other (dc3) never really rolled. In a few months you will almost certainly be chasing a toddler around and missing the days when they sat nicely.

No I would not say you need to be worried.

Don't compare your baby to other babies - they do things at different times. We tend to notice all the things other babies do which are novel (compared to what our own can do), but we don't notice the opposite - what our baby is doing that others are not, because we are used to what our baby is doing and it's difficult to notice a lack of something (unless it's a clear difference like crawling/walking).

Ask to see your health visitor for a developmental check up if you are unsure (you are likely to get one as standard between 9-12 months anyway).

I got a good tip about tummy time which is that it's not necessary to do it for long periods, it's more important to do it frequently, so I used to do it at every nappy change. Also thinking of it less as "time plonked on the tummy" and more "time spent playing on the tummy" can help too - this article was useful: www.candokiddo.com/news/2015/1/8/3-tips-for-making-tummy-time-less-miserable?rq=tummy%20time

My own DC is only six months, but a close friend of mine has two older kids. The eldest crawled at 10 months and the second crawled at 13 months. So I wouldn't feel that at 8 months your DC is behind.

Don’t worry. My first baby just went straight to crawling without rolling. She’s now a super smart switched on happy 2.5year old. They all get there eventually! My second baby also hates tummy time. Don’t stress yourself about it and definitely try not to compare to other babies.

Some kids don’t crawl at all!!
I know 2 kids the same age as my DS (2 and a half) who never crawled, they went straight from sitting/bum shuffling, to pulling themselves up on furniture, then straight to walking Smile Just skipped the whole crawling stage entirely!
I think I read somewhere recently (might have been on here!) that health visitors don’t even class crawling as a proper “developmental milestone” anymore either
