8 month old - Food options

Hi,

My 8 month old son eats really well, however he still does not have any teeth. I have moved on to mashing, rather then blending to purées, but is there any finger foods I can safely give him, without him having teeth? I want to try to vary his diet & he will be starting nursery in a few weeks, so would like to try some new things with him before then, as I know they have lots more food options for him.

Hi OP. You will be surprised how strong the gums are! He can have anything a baby with teeth can have as long as you are willing to give it.

But to start with, how about things like toast, melon, banana, pears soften in the microwave for a few seconds. Steamed vegetables. Breadsticks are a good one too. Orange slices. Just make sure food is appropriately cut for baby's age :) x

My 9 month old has no teeth and is merrily eating almost everything I would give her if she did. We don't mash, we just give her food- florets of broccoli, pieces of bread, strips of roast beef and chicken, chunks of melon and mango.

Try it, you'll be surprised.

The finger foods we've tried so far are boiled carrots, courgettes, broccoli, parsnip. Sweet potato roasted chunks. Lightly toasted fingers with soft cheese, jam, fruit puree, peanut butter. Eggy bread, omelette. Ella kitchen long cheese/apple sticks. Banana, melon.

We're new to this so following to see what others are giving!

If you Google baby led weaning you'll find loads of ideas and tips on how to cut the food so that it is safe. Our 6 month old loves avocado, but has also already tried banana, carrot and sweet potato. There's plenty of veg you can just steam for them.
