Hello all,

One of my closest friends is having a baby soon and I would like to make a gift basket of things for her. I don’t have children of my own and just wondered if anyone could give me a few pointers as the sorts of things you’d have appreciated as a first time mum.

Thank you so much in advance. 😊

My favourites included a food hamper (satsumas, chocolate coated rice cakes, small chocolate bar, crumpets), a box a friend sent had sweets, tea, and some really lovely smelling shower gel. I love the shower gel best of all. Another friend made up a baby box of items (similar contents to the baby box given out in Scotland). From that my favourite items were colourful muslins and a thermometer for the baby.

If she’s bf Lansinoh, but other than that, shower gel, luxury biscuits and tea.

I was given a lovely baby gift by my friend which was practical!

  • pack of muslins
  • long sleeve body suits (newborn)
  • short sleeve body suits (0-3 months)
  • dribble bibs
  • childs farm toiletry set (wash, lotion and something else... oil?)
  • size 1 nappy’s
  • teatree oil (for postpartum baths)

I honestly was so appreciative as most of the gifts we received were lovely (impractical and stressful) outfits in too big sizes.

Think she also included travel sudocream, calpol sachets and bonjela so when it was the middle of the night and i wasn’t prepared I had those back ups in! Still really appreciate it but I was a bit underprepared for baby Blush

Do you want it fit baby or mother? What @mrsgranny days is great for baby, for mum I’d do bubble bath, etc.
What would be a bonus would be a couple of homemade dinners for the freezer she can just heat up.

Infacol. Wish that was there for when I needed it.

Other than that a good big drinks bottle, I don't drink hot drinks, it's surprising how you never find time to get a drink.

Comfy pj's / lounge wear you can wear when you have visitors.

Thank you all so much! I have made a small hamper for baby and included things like nappies, muslins, dribble bibs, sleepsuits etc. but was so stuck as to what to get for a new mum.

Yes I’d forgotten my mum turned up with PJs, water bottle, infacol, more teatree oil and food for me including fennel tea and smoked salmon (pregnancy craving I wouldn’t eat). Really appreciated the nice PJs and food / cleaning she did.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 04/08/2019 22:41

Nice PJs, hand cream, lip balm, coffee shop gift card.

Dry shampoo...... Wink

FusionChefGeoff · 04/08/2019 23:07

Portable charge bank and lead for her phone for when she gets stuck feeding / up in the night and phone dies!!

Yummy scrummy food and lovely posh soft drinks.

Rarfy · 05/08/2019 20:53

Yes yes to dry shampoo and hand cream. Maybe some rubber gloves too. Sounds silly but my hands are still like sandpaper now and dd is 7.5 months old.

Thermos flask, hand cream, lansinoh (only if bf) and a fancy eye mask, were my favourites. Oh and a box of super fancy chocolate brownies.

Freezer meals were also a god send.

I made my sil a hamper that had 2 baby outfits in and the rest was nice snack food like biscuits, tea, nice crisps, popcorn, chocolates etc as I really appreciated having nice things to snack on when I got back from hospital (having not eaten for days and chaos of life with a new baby). She really loved it and was so happy when she got it.
