Teething or not?

My son is 8 months old and his first tooth is just coming through, since Sunday he’s been dribbling and chewing his hands a lot and crying, he had two strange looking poos on Sunday but he’s had normal ones since and then he keeps getting hot and feverish since Sunday, lastnite was awful and he was crying a lot in the nite which isn’t like him, been giving calpol and rubbing anbusol in gums, he wouldn’t sleep in his bed so slept with us all night. He is still eating but not as much as normal: I’m just wondering whether it is teething or not or if I need to take him to the docs.

Very probably is teething, but what if it’s not? I would take him to the doctor just in case, especially because of the fever The worst that could happen is it’ll be a quick appointment so the GP can grab a few extra minutes to catch up with everything they need to do.

If the fever is controllable with Calpol, hasn’t lasted longer than 3 days, still having wet and dirty nappies, no suspicious rash and is alert... what would you expect GP to do? Small children get lots of bugs and low grade fevers and the vast majority can be managed at home.
