Changjng baby formula...

Hi everyone,
My beautiful daughter is 2 weeks & 2 days old.
She was born at 37 weeks because I had Pre-eclampsia 😔 weighing 5 pound 1.
I've been bottle feeding her since birth because of the medication I'm on, she's been on Aptamil Pro until yesterday when I changed her to the normal Aptamil.
Reason being is she has problems doing number 2's and can take her hours to finish... spread across a few nappies.
This formula seems thicker but I'm just wondering if anyone else's baby had been struggling and you changed their formula?
Any ideas what would help her?
TIA 😊

Hi @Nomes29 I changed my dds formula. She was on cow and gate. I debated and debated and was put off by health visitors, had numerous trips and telephone calls to the GP. Lots of threads on here. It was suggested she could be CMPA or I but I didn't feel the symptoms were there. Our main problem is she was super super windy. Literally pumped 24/7. Woke up writhing around in pain pumping. It was awful.

Switched to hipp organic and never looked back. She is like a different baby.

Just for info, the Aldi mamia milk is apparently exactly the same as aptimil. My gp actually recommended us trying that one.

She was a 37wker too but 6lb 13oz. I do think unfortunately for us their digestive systems are just a bit more sensitive than babies born at full term.

Have you looked at the I love you massage, there are video guides available on YouTube. Not sure if it helped dd but it helped me to think I was doing something. Cycling legs too and apparently massaging babies feet helps them poo.

Another 37 weeker here, born 5lb 13oz (now a porky 8 month old!). Definitely agree with PP re immature digestive systems; mine wa suspected CMPA but turned out to be severe reflux that’s still an issue now.

Started on C&G, tried two types of hypoallergenic milk and settled on HiPP Organic. Can’t recommend it enough as it’s still the only brand that doesn’t make the puking worse. The paed at hospital said it’s great for earlier ones with sensitive tummies.

Hipp organic vote again. Same story but 6lb baby, been through cmpa trials and this with colief has been our miricale cure.. went from every 4 days to 4 a day.. I could do with less washing now Envy

It comes in premade bottles too for out n about, ds hated the comfort version (tried it in place of the colief as it’s got lower lactose) but the regular stage one stuff he’s perfect on.

Winterfellismyhome · 27/07/2019 19:25

Another vote for Hipp. We changed after aptamil changed last year. We put DS on Hipp anti reflux/MAM bottles and there was such a change in him

Rarfy · 27/07/2019 19:43

We used colactase for a bit too. Very similar to colief but a lot cheaper and you can add it to warm bottles too. I think colief you have to wait 30minutes or something.

Rarfy · 27/07/2019 19:45

We tried aptimil pepti 1 on prescription which is used for cmpi and it made no difference to dd whatsoever although I did switch back after a very short period of time, I think 4 days. You need a lot longer to see if there is a change. I'm sure it's something like 6 weeks but that could be wrong.

Redken24 · 27/07/2019 19:46

Hi we used aptamil for our first dd and thought we would use it for our 2nd. Unfortunately her poos were not right straight away, like wee rocks and she was straining all the time. Anyways did a few days with colief it helped and I just changed her to a lower lactose milk which is HIPP. Much more content and poos actually proper. If I'd known what I know now would have put her older sister on it as well.

Rarfy · 27/07/2019 19:48

Sorry feel like I'm taking over the thread but we also used Mam bottles and infacol.

Nodramanollama · 27/07/2019 19:49

32 weeker here, we had the same problem. I recommend hipp organic. It made such a difference. Best of luck!

Nodramanollama · 27/07/2019 19:50

Also dr brown bottles are great for colic

pablomax3045 · 27/07/2019 21:07

My son could only tolerate hipp combiotic. Pro-biotic in English I guess.
I tried at least 5 before that one.
From the first day, it was a huge difference. Basically non-stop farting and spit-ups to totally fine.

Nomes29 · 28/07/2019 20:48

Thank you so much for everyone's response!
She is constantly trumping 🙈🙈
And sick about once or twice a day.
Have just got her some Hipp milk as suggested 👌🏻
Is there a way of changing them over to another brand? Been told to go from new brand one feed to old the next?
Just worried I might give her tummy ache 😖
Thanks again everyone 💗

I just swapped straight over. I don't think it will cause any issues. Once when I swapped dd she did throw up what seemed like the whole feed but only the once.

Good luck with the hipp i wish I had done it when I first realised there was a problem but I was made to feel like an over the top new mam!

DD is weaning now and whether it is coincidence or not, whenever she has had anything cow and gate she has had napy explosions.

Rarfy · 28/07/2019 21:14

Nappy.

Nomes29 · 28/07/2019 22:00

@Rarfy I feel completely the same!!!
Over the top new mum!!!
But when you know you know!
Always say to go with your gut 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Thank you so much for all your advise 💗

Hope it works out for you @Nomes29. I noticed and immediate change in dd when we switched but I think it was about a month when I could really tell she was a different baby.

I used to have to warn everyone at baby classes she would pump and she never failed it was ridiculous then it all settled on Hipp.

Redken24 · 29/07/2019 12:31

Just change straight away, dump the old milk. X

Nomes29 · 02/08/2019 19:30

Quick update!
Changed her over to Hipp on Monday.
Now she is pooping in nearly every nappy, she's drinking more but she is still struggling with wind and pooping. She's pushing to the point of crying and going bright red 😔
I put her on Infacol and she burps fine.
She currently won't come away from me with her lying on her belly 😔
HV is off on Friday's so won't speak to her till Monday but I have the midwife round to see me on Monday anyway.
I'm guessing she has problems with milk 😔
I struggle with acid reflux and was really bad with it whilst pregnant, I'm sure that's an indication but the midwife says it's probably not 😔😔
It's so horrible watching her struggle just don't know what to do for the best now...
Any advice would be amazing 💗
