Hi everyone,

I have a nearly 12 month old DS who is desperately trying to stand an walk. He pulls up on everything and walks well holding hands. In the last month or so the effort it takes to get this boy to nap is absolutely unreal. He has had ten minutes sleep this morning at half 10. He is currently in his cot just standing up and holding on to the bars. It takes nearly an hour for him to go down for a nap. Even the car it takes 45 mins before he will sleep even if it's nap time and he is tired.

Is this normal for this age? I am assuming it is because he is trying so hard to walk he has struggling to get to sleep but my god it is draining having to deal with a tired child who just won't sleep. I'm up and down those stairs constantly!!!

Please tell me this passes 😫

Sounds normal to me! My first barely napped... ever. Total torture. He did improve at about 18 months. How are you getting him to sleep? They do still like to be cuddled/rocked at this age!

@Oly4 thank you. Oh god I hope it passes soon it's so draining him being so obviously tired but just not napping!! The only thing on his mind is walking and standing.

He gets himself to sleep and has done for quite some time (excluding illness etc). He has been really great at this except for this last month or so since standing up became a "thing". If I were to rock him it would honestly take up to an hour and I just can't do it for that long!! He is just so desperate to fight it until the last minute!!

If he can get himself to sleep then great! The only thing I can suggest to encourage naps is lots of walks in the buggy in the hope he nods off. Then you can have a coffee! I’ve got 3 kids and they only became good nappers after 12 months.
Also what time are you putting him down for a nap? At 12 months he prob just needs an afternoon nap (12-2 or so) rather than a morning nap?

Today was a good day! He had two decent naps and was consequently sooooo much happier and less whingey. I've been thinking about the whole one nap thing too but problem is he gets so tired about two hours after getting up in the morning. There is no way at all he would last until midday. Think a lot of it is to do with being so desperate to walk to be honest but I shall persevere as we all must! Thank you for your encouraging words :)
