Do your primary school children wear vests?

Dd is 7 and has always refused to wear them, she's sensitive to textures and prone to getting hot. However, her friend came over and got changed at ours after school and she had a vest on. Now I'm worried I should have made her wear them, I hadn't thought about her getting changed for PE because she's still little I guess. Have I made a massive faux pas?

Definitely not imo. Also its WAY too hot for a vest at the moment.

Dd7 - never wears a vest. Rarely cold so wouldn't need one even in winter.

Dd 5 - wears vest under uniform prob most of the year round. She feels the cold and likes lots of layers.

I can't see why they have to - it's choice.

Mine do in the winter but not at the moment. Certainly not a must.

What about when they're getting changed for PE? I'm hoping she's still too young to be worrying about people seeing her.

Never

Ours wear kit on PE days so not an issue but they cope changing after swimming on the weekends with no cubicles so wouldn't see it as a problem.

Maybe I'm a rubbish mum but I've never bought a single vest for any of my DCs.

Obviously I don't know where you are but the thought of wearing one in the warm weather we've had recently makes me feel all sweaty. What is the purpose of the vest?

PurpleDaisies · 19/07/2019 00:21

My class of that age don’t wear vests. None of them are bothered about changing for pe.

ChicCroissant · 19/07/2019 00:31

My DD would never wear a vest, used to cry even as a baby when I tried to put one on her. I'm quite relieved to hear that others won't wear them either!

NoSquirrels · 19/07/2019 00:34

She's 7.

Anyone else getting changed is also 7.

Stop stressing!

Once your DD feels the need to cover up more, she'll tell you.

My girl 9 never wears a vest she hates them. But she's happy.

AegonT · 16/10/2021 19:06

Yes in Winter but it's way to warm at the moment.

Fallagain · 16/10/2021 19:07

I can’t get DD to put her cardigan on yet as it’s too warm apparently. She has only just starting wearing PJs to bed again and she will stop by April.

Quornflakegirl · 16/10/2021 19:12

Mine are 9 and have always worn vests from November onward. I know plenty of children who don’t however.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 16/10/2021 19:14

Mine have never worn vests and now I wonder if they should be! They wear polo shirt and jumper/cardigan, plus trousers/tights in the winter and have never said they feel cold.

RussianSpy101 · 16/10/2021 19:15

My DD8 will wear one in winter. She pops one and her tights on the radiator before school.
Not always though. Her school don’t change for PE either as her school has a Logo’s sports kit which they wear on a Wednesday.

RussianSpy101 · 16/10/2021 19:16

Logo’d

Shelovesamystery · 16/10/2021 19:20

My 6yo wears them when it gets cold. I'll keep getting them until she says she doesn't want to wear them or wants crop tops or something instead. She's an incredibly easy going child though and doesn't really care what she wears.
