Bedtimes for 5yo and 2.5yo - what time is usual?

Curious to know what time is bedtime for those with children around this age. And how strictly do you stick to this?

We are going on holiday and will be hosting two sets of friends with DC of this age (older boy, younger girl) - not being a parent I’m unsure what to expect and am just thinking about mealtimes, evening activities etc.

It completely depends on the children. My 6 and 1 year old both go to bed at 8:30pm. This has nothing to do with how old they are, just with what time we manage to cook and eat dinner after we finish work.

Things can be totally different on holiday though. My 6 year old was up to 10-11pm on holiday (I was exhausted!). I would just ask them what they plan to do. They may very well want an early bedtime and some adult time in the evenings!

5 year old DS is aimed for bed at 7.30pm. Sometimes it's earlier/later depending on him or what we're up to but generally around then.

Pipandmum · 13/07/2019 18:30

I’d say around 7.30 or 8. But if they’re your friends kids why don’t you ask them their routine?

3 year old goes to bed at 7.30.
Asleep about 8pm
Wakes around 7.30-8am

Strugglingtodomybest · 13/07/2019 18:38

Mine went to bed at 7pm at that age.

Blankspace4 · 13/07/2019 18:39

Thanks all - yes - will clearly be asking both couples, probably just trying to be a control freak and plan when I don’t need to 🙈

Ours are 7.30 at the latest at home. But frankly on holiday it all goes to pot. But we still try to be back eating at home by 5.30 to keep some semblance of routine and a chance they won't be awake all bloody evening.

Littleelffriend · 13/07/2019 18:48

My 3 year old goes to bed at 6.30. Everyone thinks it’s too early but she’s totally knackered. She gets up about 6 which suits us for nursery etc

Kyriesmum1 · 13/07/2019 19:18

Wow I have a 2.5 year old who goes to bed at six and a six year old who goes to bed at 6:30!! Both are early risers though 🙄

Caterina99 · 13/07/2019 20:03

Currently 4 year old and nearly 2 year old. Bedtime around 7-7.30 for them both

Cutesbabasmummy · 13/07/2019 20:30

Our 4 year old is usually lights out at about 7.30pm. We went to Mallorca 2 weeks ago and he was up until 10pm.with an hour nap in the day and slept till 8 the next morning.

HumpHumpWhale · 13/07/2019 20:34

My 6 and 3 yo kids go to bed at 8ish. We eat around 6, then TV, bath, stories, bed. We try to stick to the same timing on holiday.

Mopmum35 · 19/07/2019 15:59

My younger 2:
2 year dd go's at 6pm
3 year dd go's at 6.50pm

ysmaem · 19/07/2019 16:33

My kids would be in ned between 7 and 8 at that age. They're 8 and 6 now and they're bedtime is now 8.30-9pm

FraterculaArctica · 19/07/2019 16:39

My 5 year old is usually asleep by 9 and my 2 (nearly 3) year old 8-8.30. I think this is far too late (theyre both awake by 6.30) but nothing I do seems to get them to sleep earlier!

drowningincustard · 19/07/2019 16:40

Not a chance I could predict bedtimes on holiday...
All depends on the days activities - either might tire them out or they may be jumping with excitement. Younger one would be massively affected by whether or not they have had a nap in the day - not predictable at that age. Finally if all adults are up having a raucous time, then no way would mine be falling asleep with all that going on...

AMAM8916 · 19/07/2019 18:47

8pm for my 2, nearly 3 year old. He wakes up around 8am.

He doesn't nap in the day

Di11y · 19/07/2019 18:52

I push usual routine back by 30 mins to 1 hour on holiday. so my 5yo and nearly 2yo will be aiming for 7.30/8ish with 5yo actually falling asleep nearer 9. dinner around 5.30-6
