Baby proofing a garden?

My 10 month old is into EVERYTHING. And I mean, EVERYTHING. Doesn't stop crawling and cruising and puts everything in his mouth. I know this is normal. But I've been wondering about the garden. In this weather I've been letting him spend lots of time outside. However, he grabs handfuls of soil, leaves, shrubbery etc and puts them in his mouth.

Is it worth putting down larger cobbles/stones on the flower beds until he stops this? We are not greenfingered so I don't care about the aesthetics.

Or is this a waste of time?

Waste of time. When they get older the bigger stones just mean something else to launch across the garden if dd is anything to go by!

Just keep an eye on him. They do grow out of the everything in mouths pretty quickly, thank god!

The novelty of soil etc. will wear off and he'll soon be onto trying to climb the fence and throw stones aimlessly.
It's just one of those ones you have to wait out and do the move and distract tactics, over and over!

Thanks guys. Genuinely helpful. He's learning to leave things that he previously was fixated on indoors so will use the same tactic with the soil in mouth stuff.
