Early roller = early crawler/walker?

Just out of curiosity really. My dd rolled from back to tummy at 6 months and crawled just before a year. She then walked at 13 months. My ds is 12 weeks and is already rolling both ways! Just wondering if this means he'll be more likely crawling and walking early? Any experiences of early this?

My DD rolled at 3 months, crawled at 7 months then walked at 12 months.

Shelley54 · 10/07/2019 19:31

DS2 topped at 13 weeks, crawled at 7m and is not walking yet at nearly 14m. I think he’s happy enough that he can get to what he wants. So no, I don’t think an early crawler will walk early.

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 10/07/2019 19:38

Eldest crawled at 7m, youngest at 9.5m. Both walked at 14m.

It was for my DD - she rolled over at 6 weeks, crawling at 5 months and walking at 8 months...

RainOrSun · 10/07/2019 19:44

Cant remember when he rolled, but it was early, and he was commando crawling at 5 months, proper crawling before 6 months.
He was then so adept at crawling, he didnt bother walking for another 8 months.
So, I'd say early rolling might mean early crawling, but not necessarily early walking.

Expressedways · 10/07/2019 19:45

Rolled at 3 months, walking at 11 months, never cracked crawling.

Wavingwhiledrowning · 10/07/2019 19:45

DD was rolling from 8 weeks. (Actually technically from day 1 because she rolled on the hospital bed the very first time I changed her Shock) . She's 8 months now and still just stays on her tummy doing nothing. DS never crawled at all - just slithered around on his tummy at an incredible pace, and walked at the same kind of time as his peers. So no pattern for us (except for DD2 who does everything as early and quickly as possible just to keep us on our toes).

PivotPivotPivottt · 10/07/2019 19:49

Can't remember when my eldest rolled think it was around 3/4 months, she walked at 10 months and never crawled. Was hitting all her milestones early.

Youngest would roll to her back whenever I tried tummy time at 8 weeks. Because of this I thought she would hit all her milestones early. She didn't roll from back to front until about 5/6 months, wasn't sitting up until 8 months, crawling 9 months and didn't walk until 14/15 months.

TinyMystery · 10/07/2019 19:55

DS rolled 3 months ish, commando crawled at 7 months, properly crawling at 8 months. He’s 10 months and not remotely interested in walking.

userabcname · 10/07/2019 19:57

DS rolled at 4 months, crawled at 11 months (competently - he kind of launched himself from bottom to tummy to where he wanted to go before this) and walked at 13 months. My friend's DS crawled much earlier but didn't walk until 15 months.

ArtichokeAardvark · 10/07/2019 20:00

DS rolled at 4 months, crawled at bang on 7 months but didn't walk until nearly 15 months. From what I've seen, early crawling often means a late walker - they can get where they want to go so don't have the same urge to walk.

theneverendinglaundry · 10/07/2019 20:03

Was certainly the case for my youngest. Cant remember tollibg but it was early. Crawling at 6 months, walking at 10 months 😱

QueenofmyPrinces · 10/07/2019 20:04

Rolled at just under 4 months.
Crawling at 7 months.
Walking confidently at 10 months.

WatchingTheWheels85 · 10/07/2019 20:05

My quickest roller was my latest walker (13mnths). My youngest didn't roll until 6m and sat up unaided at 7m yet at 8m he stood up and walked across the room!

mindutopia · 10/07/2019 20:07

I think that sounds pretty normal actually. Both of mine rolled around 12 ish weeks. First one crawled at 8 months but didn’t walk til 15 months. Second one crawled at 5.5 months and still isn’t walking at 17 months (so he’s been crawling for nearly a year!).

PerfectPeony2 · 10/07/2019 20:09

I think rolling was around 3 months then a bit longer for back to front rolling.

Commando crawling was 6 1/2 months then proper crawling at 7 months.

She took a few steps at 10 and a half months and was a confident walker at 11 months. Was climbing the stairs at 7 months too. She’s 12 months now and runs around like a crazy person!

I think if you have an active baby then they tend to do all 3 things sooner.

I much prefer the walking stage. DD was so frustrated with crawling/ cruising.

HarrietM87 · 10/07/2019 20:10

My baby rolled once each way very early (about 10-12 weeks) then didn’t roll again at all until he was walking. He crawled at 7 months (started cruising same day) and walked at 11 months. I don’t think there’s a pattern really.

saywhatwhatnow · 10/07/2019 20:12

Mine was a very late roller, he never really did it. But early walker at 9/10 months.

PleaseGoogleIt · 10/07/2019 20:13

DD rolled at 4 months, sat at 5 months, crawled at 7.5 months and walked at 10 months.

Frlrlrubert · 10/07/2019 20:34

DD rolled (once) at 4 months, didn't do it again until about 5.5! Crawled properly at about 8 months (went backwards for a bit before that) and walked at 11 months (never 'cruised', just straight to unaided walking).

A friends baby mastered rolling and used it to get around everywhere, I don't think they ever crawled and walked after 12 months, they just rolled to wherever that wanted to be.

jomaIone · 10/07/2019 20:35

My daughter rolled at 12 weeks, crawled at 7.5 months, first steps at 9.5 months! Confident Walker at 11 months.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 10/07/2019 22:25

Rolled at 4 months, crawled at 8, cruising at 9, walking at 16 months! My poor back.

Confusedandworried321 · 11/07/2019 07:27

Following as I'm not bothered about an early walker, I just don't want a late one like my DS1 (almost 19 months!). DS2 has started rolling from his back to his front now at 4 months, and I know DS1 wasn't doing this until well over 6 months. DS1 didn't crawl properly until 11 months (commando crawled at 10 months) so the late rolling definitely meant late crawling/walking for him. Come on DS2! If he walks around 14 months I will be so happy.

Morgan12 · 11/07/2019 08:02

Yep I'd say so. My DS rolled very early, crawling at 6 months and now walking at 11 months.

QuokkaBear · 11/07/2019 10:11

Yes I think there’s a connection. Mine rolled at 3 months, crawled at 6 and she just pulled herself up to a standing position at 6.5months. Have a feeling walking will be happening quite soon. DH was also an early walker at 10 months, though MIL said he never crawled and just got up and walked.
