Sunburn

My 2 year old had ended up with a sunburnt shoulder, he had suncream on and was in and out the pool, the only thing I can think of is I either didn't apply the suncream as thickly on that side as the other, or the water possibly washed it off, I feel so bad. It's not slot only some of his shoulder and arm and he isn't whingeing through discomfort or anything, I can't help but feel like a bad parent.

I done this. 33 degrees and DD burnt terribly on our first day of holiday. I used factor 50 but it must have washed off. It blistered and looked so so awful. I was ashamed and felt terrible. But it was an accident and after that first day I took better precautions. Bought her an all in one suit which exposed no skin. Hat that covered her neck head ears. She didn’t as much as get any sun on her again. She is very pale and just can’t handle any sun. It’s a lesson Learnt.

It happened. It was an accident. Learn the lesson to be more careful and move on. It’s hot where I live in the summer and sun cream is essential every day. Applying it to wriggling toddlers is a total pain and everyone unfortunately misses a patch occasionally. Long sleeved rash vests are really useful for the pool, as well as hats. Reapply the cream fairly regularly. Forgive yourself and learn from this mistake!

Try not to beat yourself up. Ours wear the rash vests as well, along with the baseball caps with the neck protection. I still put cream on everywhere any way as they take them off when they’re not in the water, but they make life so much easier.

Aloe Vera gel is great for cooling and taking the redness away.
