When did your period come back breastfeeding

I want to get pregnant but still want to breastfeed my 6 month old. I’ve always fed very often but did give one bottle a night. Now I’m trying to give more space between feeds and maybe more bottles . Also started weaning with food, however not sure this is enough to bring it back as still breastfeeding a lot at night. I wanted to know those with older kids, when did your period return and what brought it on?

6 months

Pixie2015 · 07/07/2019 21:27

Two and a half years - for the last year mainly just night feeds !

Awrite · 07/07/2019 21:32

First time - after 8 months. Was still bfing but had introduced bottles at 6 months too.

Second time - after 9 months. Was still bfing. Wee bugger wouldn't take a bottle and took way more than his big sister.

15 months, came back 2 weeks after I quit feeding her, pregnant 2 weeks later

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 07/07/2019 21:36

Still hasn't come back five months after stopping. I was on the pill and getting withdrawal bleeds but nothing since I stopped that nearly three months ago (and I'm not pregnant, but I'd like to be).

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 07/07/2019 21:37

So still not back 19 months since DS was born.

YouLikeTheBadOnesToo · 07/07/2019 21:37

7 months, pretty much as soon as ds dropped to one (short) nighttime feed. Still fed VERY regularly during the day. Nighttime feeding does seem to be the main factor for a lot of people.

BertieBotts · 07/07/2019 21:39

DS1 18 months
DS2 4/5 months (can't remember exactly)

DS2 had one bottle at bedtime until he was about 5mo. Neither was related to night weaning.

LittleMissWeary · 07/07/2019 21:40

10 weeks and 27 days.

Both ebf all hours of the day and night.

Utterly gutted.

Earlywalker · 07/07/2019 21:41

As soon as the lochia stopped. And has been like clockwork ever since Sad

Clevs · 07/07/2019 21:46

8 months and was EBF.

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2019 21:57

Mine came back after four months & I was EBF. As for what triggered it, I suspect dropping a night feed did it. I was pregnant again within three months, which was very welcome if not exactly planned Grin

These threads come up quite often & I always find it amazing how much of a variation there is.

This is so interesting. DD is 10 months, we still feed a lot with no plans to stop, but I'm starting to think about no.2... crazy how different it is for everyone!

SayNoToCarrots · 07/07/2019 23:49

28 days after birth first time, six weeks second time, both ebf (throughout the night too)beyond 9 months. HOW DARE YOU SCIENCE?

Freshprincess · 07/07/2019 23:52

Not till I'd completely stopped. Probably about a month or two later.

FortheloveofJames · 13/07/2019 12:03

Got my first period when DS was about 12 months, although it was alllll over the place. Sometimes I’d go ages between a period and others they would be far closer together than was ever normal for me pre baby. Fell pregnant with DC2 when DS was 20 months.

Thecaravan · 13/07/2019 13:36

Stopped breastfeeding when DD was 7 months and got first period about 5 weeks later. Was pregnant 3 months after that. Big surprise as am 41 and had to have IVF for DD. DD2 is 3 weeks and am wondering if we can squeeze another one out quick before my ovaries give up the ghost completely!

oliviat93 · 13/07/2019 13:54

I'm 7 weeks pp and ebf and my periods started yesterday which I was very shocked and a bit annoyed about.

She has started sleeping longer in the night, goes down between 9 &10 and wakes up for a feed between 4 & 5 so I'm guessing this is why

Jealous of all the people that are 6 months +!

YukoandHiro · 20/07/2019 20:06

13 months for me - after I started back at work

TinyMystery · 20/07/2019 20:12

6 months. He was ill and slept through the night a couple of times (had also just started solids). Two weeks later I got my period like clockwork! I’m still furious about this tbh as his sleep was shit until 8 months so I feel it’s unfair I had to have periods and be up all night breastfeeding!

BarryMcguigan · 20/07/2019 20:13

4
Months despite EBF and lots of night feeding. Has been clockwork since

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 20/07/2019 20:52

Until I gave up daytime feeds DS still fed all night Envy (not envy) So, 12 hours between feeding?

I think he was a year old

Squidgling · 20/07/2019 20:58

Not until DD1 completely stopped breast feeding at 18 months.

It's still not back with 22 month old DD2 even though she only feeds morning and bed time generally. Occasionally she will have a feed at nap time or in the night but this doesn't happen that often. I'm guessing I'll have to stop completely again before they're back.

citybumpkin · 20/07/2019 21:03

3 months. DD slept for at least 7 hours each night since 8 weeks so I assume thats what made the bloody thing reappear.

TeapotofTerror · 20/07/2019 21:12

6 weeks Sad I'd barely stopped bleeding from giving birth and am still breast feeding 2 years later.
