What slings are best?

For newborns as well as older babies? Ideally something very breathable given the current temperatures. Or is it best not to use one in this heat?

I have been given a baby bjorn carrier but have heard that there is some concern over them causing hip issues. Unsure if this is just speculation or if there is truth to it.

What would you recommend?

If you have one go to your nearest sling library I borrowed a couple before deciding on the one I have. X

A carrier (baby born or otherwise) cannot cause hip issues. They can exacerbate a pre existing one though. That being said a carrier/wrap/sling that puts the legs in a ergonomic (frog leg) position will be far comfier for baby as well as the parent.

Google you local sling libraries, they’re a fab resource that will let you try on lots of different types to see which you like best.

Personally I love wraps & used them lots with my first 4 dc. With dc5 I bought an ergo360 which I have got on really well with, it was just easier to use buckles for school runs. It depends what type you use as to how many layers it counts as. Dc 4 & 5 were both high summer babies & I usually just had them in a vest & possibly socks.

Slings are like jeans the one I like might be no good for you. Definitely find a sling library. For what it's worth I used a stretchy wrap and a ring sling with my newborn, then a woven wrap but I never learnt to the it that well so stuck to my sleepy nico (my true love of slings) and a wompat now she's 18months.

Ooh I've never heard of a sling library. Will have a Google!
The baby bjorn carrier I have is the miracle carrier, so let's will be in an M shape when baby is in it. So that's ok in terms if being best for their hips?

I think going to a sling library will be really helpful for me as I have no idea where to start. But taking the pram out on bumpy terrain dog walks is really impractical so I would like to try them.

Yes, it’s all about the leg position, there are hacks out there as well.

If you have fb m.facebook.com/groups/392468534286432/?ref=group_browse is a good group to join. There are also selling groups if you decide you like a particular type once baby is here. If you don’t have a sling library near by some of the online shops also offer online consultation & postal hire (I think slings & things is one but don’t quote me).
