Have you seen Cod's latest potty training thread [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1800&threadid=351017&stamp=070727131751 here]? Lots of good advice.

Rubbish - must preview before posting! Here.

Give up, is my advice.

I've potty trained 2 boys now and I'm just about to do ds3. I tried the older two at 2.5 - after 3 days of nothing on the pottty or toilet I put them back in pull ups. At 2 yrs 9 months for ds1, 2 yrs 11 months for ds2 I tried again and they cracked it in no more than 3 or 4 days.

Ds3 is now 2 yrs 11 months so I'll let you know how it goes next week! I'm starting Sunday.

IME, it's easier the later you leave it. I don't understand why people do it so early and spend so long getting pissed off (arf!) and carrying round spare sets of clothes for months on end. Madness.

we're 6 days into PTing ds(3) and its been going good. maybe leave it for a few weeks and then try again?

if not for her, then for you! (i am with you, the first 2 days were HELL for me!)

This happened with my dd1 when i tried at 2.5, after 2 whole weeks of being house bound I realised i was just catching wee and that she didn't know she needed to go. I abandoned everything and put her back in pullups and left it until she was 2.10, she mastered wees and poos in 3 days and has had hardly any accidents since....if its day 5 and still loads of accidents i'd be inclined to wait. Good luck x

I started yesterday with my 2.8yr old boy. Yesterday, great day, once poo and wee and an extra wee later on the day. One accident. Today, Hell. So far two accidents. He is refusing to go to the potty, I keep asking if he wants to go, but obviously he says no, when I try to take him to it that is a battle. What sould I do? Should I force him on it?? I don't think so. Should I say ok, and wait until i find wee on my living room floor, I don't think so... Advice??????

my dd woud not be forced or encouraged to sit on the potty. On day 2 of potty training I kept encouraging her to go prob every 15 minutes and she wouldn't, and she would scream if I tried to put her on the potty.
I was sat with my head in my hands at the kitchen table when she called me and had done a wee on her own. I think she had grasped that she had to go on the potty and genuinle didn't need a wee and knew this.

Oh, and, am afraid to say I bribed her for the first few days with starbursts. She had one if she did a wee in the potty or even if she had an accident but was on her way to the potty iyswim, I then weaned her off the sweets with a star chart. And she stuck a star on the chart each time she did a wee.

Ds was in washable nappies and I'm sure that this makes it earlier. He had been getting used to sitting on potty morning and night and having a story - probably 95% success rate - got him used to what potty was for. Started potty training at 2.3 as he was mostly dry at night and had started asking some of the time, even if it didn't quite give enough time. Using washable training pants - the advantage is that you might get c. 20sec to get trousers off before trousers also wet for normal wee, and only the complete waterfalls result in actual puddle on floor. Now 2.5, training for c. 6wks, accidents less often than not, and max of 1 per day.

We weren't aiming to pt at this age, just took the hints from him - important that they are ready.

Recommend the training pants though...
