Silly question but how old is my baby

Sounds completely odd but how old is my baby.

She was born 16/1, so I count the weeks from then so today she's been here 24 weeks so I say she's six months.

However someone said I should be counting the 16th of each month which would make her 5.5 months old

Saw a health visitor this morning who said she was 24 weeks.

I've been confused by these statements

You count in weeks.
Or give an age in months. She won’t be 6 months until 16/7.
I’m not sure what’s confusing.

boatyroo · 03/07/2019 14:28

She is 24 weeks but will be 6 months on the 16th. There aren't 4 weeks in a month, so 24 weeks is not the same as 6 months.

MissYeti · 03/07/2019 14:28

If you're saying she's x months old then count the months since she was born.

Week age and month age don't match up afaik

There are roughly 26 weeks in 6 months, so she 24 weeks or 5.5 months if you prefer. Most months have 2 or 3 days more than 4 weeks in them.

MayFayner · 03/07/2019 14:30

6 months is 26 weeks.

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/07/2019 14:35

Well she obviously isn’t six months until the 16th of July. There are not four weeks in a month.

Thank you for the replies. Not so much for the sarcastic ones. Just a genuine question as I saw a health visitor today who said she was 6 months old and a friend who said she was 5.5. I was just asking who is right.

You said the HB said she was 24 weeks - that’s not the same thing as saying 6 months, that’s definitely 5.5 weeks.

No the hv said she was 24 weeks which she is. I really don’t see the confusion?

Pippinsqueak · 03/07/2019 16:26

No she told me she was 24 weeks and now she's that's she's six months old she can start weaning that's why I was confused sorry I should have added that in.

Ah, okay, I can see how she's confused the issue - but it's your HV's confusion, not yours.
24 weeks = 5.5 months.
Possibly she just got her dates muddled. two more weeks and she'll be six months and can wean on guidelines.
