Extended rear facing

We had planned to keep son rear facing until around 4. Recently bought a new car seat which can be rear or forward facing on an isofix base. The problem is, on any car journey in excess of 15 minutes he vomits quite violently. We're due to do a long drive in 2 weeks time and we're considering cancelling because it's so stressful and horrible when he's sick. Several people have suggested turning him forward facing. I've bought sea bands and we'll try waiting at least an hour after food, but I'm not hopeful.

Anyone got any tips to deal with this? Would you go on the long trip or avoid long drives until he gets through this phase?

It could be going backwards makes him motion sick, i feel poorly on a train going backwards! Can you do a test run with the sea bands and try some motion sickness tablets
