Chores for 11 year old

Hi all,

So my DD11 has spurted out today after I have asked her to wash up after dinner that 'none of her friends have chores'

So, she is asked to clear the table and sweep around table after dinner. (Never expect perfectly swept floors)

Once every couple of weeks I ask her to kove shoes from down stairs to upstairs.

Once a week maybe I will ask her to pop away some washing, maybe a days worth.

Is this a reasonable amount? What do you expect your 11 year old child to do?

I will be showing her this so we can both see reasonable answers and come to an agreement,

Tia

Mine has to take lunchbox out of bag after school, and check any paperwork I may need to see. She also helps lay the table and clear up, and stacks her stuff in the dishwasher. And she puts her laundry away (I fold it first).

She also has to keep her stuff tidy as she goes along - so shoes away in cupboard, coat hung up, bag away, tablet back in drawer, etc....but I cut her a lot of slack in terms of how she keeps her own room, and there's usually a bit of a floordrobe in one corner, which she tackles every few days Grin

Ps and I don't pay her!!

My 10yo sorts the weekly recycling and comes with me to help at the tip. He puts his washing into whites and colours washing bins. He lays the table and he sometimes makes lunch - ham sandwiches or omelettes or pizza. He can make a decent salad. And he’s just mastered the washing machine.
But he doesn’t clean anything yet

My 10 year old makes his bed/tidys room/puts his clothes away. Hoovers whole house twice a week, does the recycling and sorts the clean socks into pairs. Oh and he has to clean his own football boots. I don't ask him to do these things anymore, he just does them out of habit now.

Thank you, these are very insightful

Oh sorry, DD also makes snacks for her and her brother sometimes, and also makes us lunch sometimes at the weekend.

My just turned 3 year old has to put her shoes, coat and bag away. She also has to put her plate next to the sink when she has finished. We are working on tidying toys but as adults we are not great at remember to do this with her. Based on this I don’t think your expecting too much from an 11 year old.

My 9 year old makes his bed (not change the sheets just straighten it on a morning), keeps his room tidy (I clean it) and puts his own ironing away.

He also takes turns drying the dishes after dinner. He loves helping with meal prep as well and will make his own breakfast/packed Lunch/snack/supper occasionally
