What do you do if you need to get a cab with your toddler?

DS is 22mths and I need to go and collect our car from the garage. It;s chucking it down so I'm thinking of getting a cab - it's about 5-10 mins away, but our baby car seat is in the car in the garage. Would you get a cab without child seat? Is this allowed anyway?

I wondered about this cos I was in the same situation! So just bumping for you cos I'd like to know too!

can you wait till DH gets home? or get the bus?

The taxi comany I use have some child seats - ring the taxi company and ask.

Don't ever strap you and baby with the same seatbelt - this is the worse thing you can do, you will crush her/him to death this way - better to sit without a belt at all.

Ivykaty is right. Never, ever put a child on your lap and place one seatbelt round both of you. Much more dangerous than no seatbelt at all.

I'd ask the taxi firm if they have child seats - some modern black cabs have them built into the arm rest, I think.

Sit her on you lap and go and get the car.

I've done this a couple of times in an emergency and I often use black cabs with ds and his pushchair and none of the ones I've ever used have had child seats in.

dont know if you have addison lee in your area, their sharan cars all have pull down baby seats, the help with baby and shopping, i love them, cheaper than black cabs.

some of the newer black cabs have a special toddler seat in the middle, my dd's think it's cool
