How often do you bath your baby?

My dd is nearly 1 and I give her a bath every other day ( she had one last night so she will miss tonight and have one tomorrow night) should I be bathing her everyday? She isn't a messy baby

My DS (8 months) is bathed every other day, sometimes we even go a day longer than that (he has dry/eczema prone skin, so GP recommended a good break in between baths). We use a warm flannel and 'spot clean' when necessary (usually after meal times!).

I would carry on as you are as long as you're happy, don't worry about what 'everyone else' does, they're not your DDs parent!

homemadegin · 22/06/2019 16:17

I bath DD every day. She was born with the most massive crop of hair I've ever seen. By the end of the day it needs a wash, usually from people stroking itShock

If it wasn't her her crazy hair I would probably do every other day.

DS is 2 and is bathed every other day unless I think he's dirty.

Every day for ds 1 year hut partly because he loves his baths. He is also frequently quite filthy from messy play and crawling round.

Charlottejade89 · 22/06/2019 16:47

my dd is also 1 also and I bath her every other night, sometimes every 3rd night if we are out and come home late. I wash her face and hands with a warm flannel after each mealtime

Backwoodsgirl · 22/06/2019 16:51

Every 4 days here, we were told in the hospital that bathing every day damages soft new skin

blackcat86 · 22/06/2019 16:56

I wash DD (10 months) every other day. It used to be daily but she started getting dry skin which every other day has all but cured. Now she sits well I actually take her in the shower with me and use a shower seat.

IWouldPreferNotTo · 22/06/2019 16:56

I'm clearly not the norm as I bathe our baby everday as part of his going to sleep routine and have been doing it from 8 weeks. Plenty of emollient in the water and a nice cream afterwards that we get from Poland.

Ginger1982 · 22/06/2019 17:23

@IWouldPreferNotTo I don't think there is a 'norm' as such, just whatever works for you.

2beautifulbabs · 22/06/2019 20:59

Every other day I bath my DS 2 yr and my DD 16 weeks old or sometimes it will be three days before a bath I don't see the point in bathing every day unless they are dirty of course

Knockthreetimes · 22/06/2019 21:03

Everyday unless he's super tired used to be every other day but he's seems to get a lot more messy

SkydivingKittyCat · 22/06/2019 21:06

Every day usually since about 5 months. He loves it, he sleeps better and after 3 meals a day (plus nursery etc.) he needs a damn good wash!

Zoflorabore · 22/06/2019 21:11

Mine are older now but we bathed them both every night as part of our wind down routine. They both slept from the minute they got home from the hospital and I was very luck I know that. I beleive having a good routine definitely helped with that. Who knows?

With my first born I used to top and tail now and again and found it easier to just bath him. It doesn't have to be long or even thorough but mine have always been water babies and loved swimming too.

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 22/06/2019 22:35

Every day. He's usually filthy.

WeaselMcWeasel · 22/06/2019 23:10

Every day for my 8 month old. Mainly for his hair. It's long and he gets food in it constantly. He also loves it, he gets so excited and it's been part of his routine since 3/4 weeks old.

Greenolivesorblackolives · 22/06/2019 23:14

Everyday because she loves bathtime. But if we miss an evening then that’s fine too.

Wallywobbles · 22/06/2019 23:43

It was part of our evening routine so daily.

Tobebythesea · 23/06/2019 09:09

I bathed DD every night (part of keep routine) until about 18 months when we changed it to every other night.

In summer she might need it more regularly due to sun cream etc.

gonewiththerain · 23/06/2019 09:11

About twice a week obviously I wash him
In between

nespressowoo · 23/06/2019 10:16

Twice / maybe three times a week when tiny. When he turned 8 months he had one every night for his routine. He gets filthy now at 2.5yrs so it's still every night.

PeacefulInTheDeep · 23/06/2019 21:41

Twice or sometimes three times a week here, DS is 11 months. He doesn't get dirty as such, and his hands and face get washed each mealtime anyway.

theruffles · 24/06/2019 11:12

2-3 times a week. DD is almost 1 and not a very messy baby. She's also prone to dry skin/excema so I don't think lots of baths help her skin.

SparkyBlue · 24/06/2019 13:03

Two or three times a week sometimes more sometimes less. Same with my older children. I honestly don't understand the need to bath children every night.

Eminybob · 24/06/2019 13:15

Twice a week for both ds’s.
I used to bathe ds1 every day but he developed terrible eczema and baby acne so we were advised to bathe him less frequently. He’s 4 now and doesn’t get that dirty. Baby ds2 has perfect skin and I think that’s down to the less frequent baths.

nomushrooms · 24/06/2019 13:36

Every day (7 months old) but only because it marks bedtime for her and she usually then goes down without a fuss. She also has reflux so smells pretty disgusting by the end of each day 🤮
