More simple nappy questions

OK help please
1)Do I just put a couple of drops of neat tea tree oil in the bucket or should I dilute? Put 3 drops of neat in the other day and nearly fainted at awful smell of nappies when I took them out of washer (but it does neutralise smell in bucket). DOn't think I can do cold rinse first in this machine will have to play a bit
2) To make liners do I just cut up the fleece you can buy in any haberdashery shop? or is it 'special' fleece? Any pattern or just hourglass?
3) What do I make wipes out of?
4) If they do get nappy rash can I use cream with cloth nappies?
Forgotten the rest!
Thanks everyone

  1. Put a bit of muslin or something in the bucket, and the drops on that (works better somehow).

  2. Just basic fleece (thicker works slightly better), and whatever shape you want - I do rectangles so it hangs over the edges and bit and stops anything gathering in the elastic.

  3. Whatever you like Old towels work well for gripping, I tend to use fleece though (can't use fleece liners anymore so I use my old liners)

  4. Yup, you can use cream (just make sure you use a liner or it will coat the fibres).

oh can i ask a question, never used cloth before but hoping to when this baby comes out in 4 weeks -
the cream question, by the liners you mean the thing that catches the poo? If i dont put that in then is it just straight nappy to bum? if they have need cream that is ??

FlameDelacour · 25/07/2007 10:56

I'm confused - if you have no liner, then the cream will end up coating the nappy fabric and messes up the absorbancy a bit, so if you need to use a barrier cream, it is best to do so with a liner (the poo catching bit).
