Hi ladies!

My ds has my ex partners surname, We split soon after ds was born. My ex still has parental rights but contact ia very limited.

I would like to change my sons surname to mine however i cant do so without dads agreement but i have no way of contacting him. My ds has my surname as a middle name so was wondering if i can change his surname as "known as"?

I live in Scotland so any advice would be appreciated

Thanks!

I was under the impression you can use whatever you like as a "known as" name - will just need full name for "official" stuff?

Our nursery registration forms ask for full name which we check against birth certificate but also have space for preferred names. Usually if they differ it's because the preferred name drops part of a double barrelled name but I don't see why your situation would be any different really.
