Childcare grant for student parents

I'm wondering if anyone can give me some information regarding the childcare grant.

Will they pay for childcare during vacation time? I would rather have my daughter in the routine of going to nursery regularly rather than having to take her out and re-introduce her at the beginning of every term (she is only 2 years old)

The forms also say "Complete Weekly costs before term 1 if you want to claim for the period between the first day of your academic yera and the start of term 1"

Whats the difference between the first day of the academic year and the start of term 1?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I think first day of academic year can be before start of term if your course doesn't start beginning of (academic) year - say it starts few weeks later than the actual university opens (my sister's college at DUrham did this). Should be easy enough to find out through the university.

here says it will cover childcare costs during holiday
"The amount of Childcare Grant you can get will depend on your income and the income of your dependants. It is also based on the actual costs of your registered or approved childcare. It covers childcare costs during term times and holidays"

Also gives idea of maximum amounts you can claim.
