Car seat - maxi cosy and newborn insert / foot muffs

Hi, has anyone used a newborn insert and foot muff together? I tried today and baby turned his head right in to the padded piece, when I got him out I was frightened to death that could have been unable to breathe! I have a rear view mirror set up but I’m worried I won’t be able to atop in time if I see him doing again again!?

Take the footmuff off. Just have a lovely lightweight blanket this time of year that you can remove easily.

This sounds scary. No experience of using the footmuff I'm afraid - but do you need it? If baby is wearing a hat and has a blanket tucked around his/her body and legs (OVER the harness after you've done it up, this is v important) then they should stay warm enough without needing a full-body muff. Esp heading into summer - then by the time you get to winter they'll be a bit bigger and have much better head control anyway.

Just my thoughts - it's what I would (and did) do!

Thanks for the responses - it sounds like I might not need the foot muff at all. I’ll try taking it off and hopefully that will create a bit more room around baby’s head 👍

If you have a look online there are some gorgeous car seat wraps which are perfect for keeping tiny babies snuggly and safe. I had one from Wallaboo.

Even in winter the advice is just to have a blanket over them - no coat, just layers. My LO gets a hot bum sat in the car seat even on the coldest of days so a blanket or two will be fine.
