Overweight baby fears?

Hi All

My DS will be 4 months old tomorrow and I'm terrified the HV is going to tell me he's overweight 😢

He's only on 4 bottles a day at 7oz but at his last weigh in (3 months) he was 16lb 6oz.

2 friends who had babies the same week both are weighing soo much lighter than him (about 13lb at 4 months) and I'm scared the HV is going to say he's overweight and above the 95th centile!!

When he was born he was 8lb 1oz so not overly big.

Should I reduce his feeds or what advice is there to try to get him a bit more active to hopefully loose weight

No you don't need to reduce feeds and he will get more active as he gets older.

Don't stress about what may or may not be said. You'll be driven mad! As pp said, as your LO becomes more active, rolling crawling and walking he'll need those feeds.

I just checked back and my DD, now 9 months, was only a little lighter than your boy when she was 4 months and there were definitely bigger babies than her around. She was 75th percentile.

I wouldn't worry at all, as he gets older he will get more active, and in my opinion far better to be slightly over (which I don't think he is, that sounds about right) than under

You shouldn’t be worried about a child’s weight until they start moving, unless of course there are risk factors that suggest he might have a health condition that causes weight gain?

Babies can’t be overweight, you can’t over feed a baby either. Your baby is fine. My DC were all 99th centile but are now a completely normal weight.

My 4 month old is almost 19lb, he’s 98th percentile for weight and height. I’m not the slightest bit worried about it, someone has to be at either end of the scale. He’s just a chunky monkey ☺️

My DS suddenly gained a load at 4 months to go 91st centile and has stayed there but he's also taller than most kids his age. I think a lot of it is to do with build.
