Question about joint attention in a 9 month okd

I’m just wondering what I should be expecting in terms of joint attention from my little guy at this point. I worry because when I sit on the floor and play with him, he doesn’t really show me things he is interested in very often and sometimes not really at all.

However, if my husband is tickling him, he will look at him and then at me as if to see if I notice the tickling. Or sometimes he will pull my husband’s hair and laugh and look at me and smile and gauge my reaction. Does this count?

I just get worried cause he gets so focused on his toys and doesn’t engage me much....only sometimes or if it’s something new. Is this typical at this age, or should I be worried?

i attached a link of us playing when he seems engaged below but he is only like this sometimes:

Sounds completely normal to me for his age. He's just exploring the world in his on terms. It's good that he can both interact with you and play a bit on his own. Means he can entertain himself close by while you get on with things (prepping dinner, reading etc.)

My LO checks with me or my DP when she is playing. For example when she learned to blow raspberries back to us on our arm she'd look up at me as if to say "this is funny, isn't it?". She's often looks at one of us to check if something is funny or scary or naughty. It's cute to see her checking things with us. Sounds like that is what youre LO is doing.
