Birth Certificate Help

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help? My sons's original birth certificate was lost (gutted, gave it to a family member and they lost it). Went online to order a new one though Scotland's People - they phoned me the next day saying that as my son was born in 2018, they didn't have a copy yet.
Phoned the local council I registered him with and they sent me a certificate - straightforward right?
Sent it off to the passport office and they have come back saying it wasn't a full one so we can't use it. How do I get a full copy certificate? I didn't even know there was a difference! The local council never said their was the option of full or extract so I'm a bit lost!

Contact the local council again. You have to pay for full one. Think it is £10 but should be straight forward.

I wonder if they messed up then as I paid for the one they already sent me, £11 or something!
