Toddler with bent little finger

We've recently noticed our dd's little finger is a lot more bent than her other fingers. When I've asked her to straighten her hands the finger remains bent. We're booked in to see the doctor about this but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same thing with their lo's? If so can you let me know how it was treated in the end? I googled it and seems to be something called clinodactyly but obviously nothing has been diagnosed yet.

DH, his mum and several other family members all have a crooked little finger. They look at it as a quirk x

I have this, as do lots of rellies on my DF’s side. It’s fine Smile.

My daughter had a ‘trigger thumb’ which sounds similar. Had a minor operation to correct it. It’s caused by a tendon becoming trapped so it’s too tight

Thanks @Kiki275 . I'm hoping it just the way her finger is formed rather than anything more sinister. Obviously google has lots of lovely scare stories on there. It doesn't affect her or cause her any pain so hopefully it's just a little quirk like you've said.

My daughter (aged 3) had a slight fall and trapped a tendon in her thumb as a result. Her thumb was crooked and she couldn't straighten it.
We didn't notice until a couple of weeks later.
Doctor recommended massaging it regularly to see if released on its own but it didn't, she eventually had to have a small operation.

Definitely worth checking at the GP

Hi OP. DS had trigger finger as a toddler. After a few years I just realised one day that it was straight! It didn't cause him any pain and it didn't pose a problem in the future. Try not to worry too much Smile

My middle finger on my right hand is bent slightly too. I believe my Dad's also slightly bent so I reckon it is genetics/hereditary.

Thank you everyone for your replies! Got an appointment with the GP in a weeks time so hopefully will know more then.

Just to add, you didn't mention DD's age. But trigger finger apparently mostly affects teenage girls.

This is mine. I was born with it. Doesn't bother me at all.

@BoxOfBabyCheeses My daughter is 2 (26 months). @TheVandalsTookTheHandles that looks exactly the same as my dd. Although hers is more curved but that might be because her hand is still small. It really doesn't affect her but I still want to see the GP to be on the safe side.

That's fair enough. My mum took me to the drs (this was in the 70s mind you!) When i was about 2 and he said I could have it straightened but it would leave a scar. She decided not to bother because it's never caused pain.

I have a bent pinky finger to! I've had it since birth. And caused no problems. People like to call it my posh pinky 🤭
