Baby had ice-cream. How do I protect against sugar damage?

My father-in-law gave my 3 month old baby ice-cream. I was not asked and was only found out afterwards.
Supposedly it was only a taste on his tongue. I made my feelings known and mother-in-law gave him a bolloking as well. I am so upset by this for many reasons but the main one I'm worried about is how to 'brush his teeth'. Obviously he hasn't got any yet but I know sugar can damage gums.
I don't have a baby toothbrush and as it's bank holiday I can't ask health visitor for advice so I'm reaching out to you. Does anyone have experience with this or know what I can do?

And teething powders are basically sugar with some chamomile waved over it then cunningly packaged to make you think you're getting herbal magic.

He'd have to have mimed root canal treatment if he'd had a lick of a chocolate button.

Your first baby?
You'll have to lighten up, or you'll have a heart attack the first time he picks up something from the floor and eats it.

SkintAsASkintThing · 26/05/2019 23:45

You're being dramatic.

In 20 years none of this will matter and if by some miracle you remember it you'll cringe. 💁

StillMedusa · 26/05/2019 23:47

Bless you..first baby anxiety. People are mean!
But seriously... chill. Baby is fine. And has no teeth. And a tiny bit of sugar will not corrupt anything!

Honestly we used to be weaning babies at 4 months and one of mine was lovingly fed a presucked chocolate button at 12 weeks by her big sister. Said big sister had sugar in her bottle to help her constipation as a tiny baby..on the doctors advice.
Both have perfect teeth ....

Relax!

mindproject · 26/05/2019 23:49

I blame all the food Nazis for this thread. You know who I mean; the ones who think sugar = instant death. Sugar is not rat poison, it's a food. I really wish people would stop freaking out about it.

Apileofballyhoo · 26/05/2019 23:54

Quintella

A decade of the rosary will fix it. Grin

kateandme · 26/05/2019 23:55

has op fainted

notacooldad · 26/05/2019 23:56

Info you are freaking out about this parenthood is going to be extremely challenging for you!

Northernlurker · 26/05/2019 23:57

Op is probably under duvet crying with stress. It is horrible with your first baby when you think you've broken them. Chin up op, you're being a bit daft but your baby is blessed to have a loving mum.

A dear friend of mine once told me that in time I would discover:

First baby - everything that touches them is sterilised
Second baby - sterilise on a "remember" basis
Third baby - what is this sterilising? Mmm tasty dishcloth
Fourth baby - fed on cold leftover curry from the fridge by first baby

All hale and disgustingly healthy in their 20s, not a filling in their mouths

ILoveMaxiBondi · 27/05/2019 00:02

Clearly not a real thread.

7salmonswimming · 27/05/2019 00:03

Yes, I can see how this might be a conundrum...

Breezy1985 · 27/05/2019 00:04

Trust me, he's gonna end up with a lot worse in his mouth when he's older. He'll be fine 🤣

LemonTT · 27/05/2019 00:05

Average use of secondary IL characters to reinforce the neurotic mother and first borne stereotype. But this scores "a must do better" for late night on a bank holiday without mentioning twins who are lactose intolerant.

AllFourOfThem · 27/05/2019 00:06

I can’t believe no one is taking the OP seriously. Your baby will have to have all teeth extracted ASAP. Even then, it might be too late now.

MissConductUS · 27/05/2019 00:07

You'll need a Tardis toothbrush.

WorraLiberty · 27/05/2019 00:14

Christ on a bike.

What is wrong with MN tonight?

It seems to be full of people name changing to start stupid threads that they never return to.

SaffaQueen · 27/05/2019 00:16

Thanks for the laugh - I don’t think I’ve read anything so funny in a while!

Defo a first time mum...

My 1 year old was trying to eat soil & leaves earlier, OP would have spontaneously combusted with anxiety had she been there.

1forAll74 · 27/05/2019 00:18

OMG, is this for real., I thought you were going to say that your baby was eating a magnum ice cream, whilst nobody was looking !!
