Baby had ice-cream. How do I protect against sugar damage?

My father-in-law gave my 3 month old baby ice-cream. I was not asked and was only found out afterwards.
Supposedly it was only a taste on his tongue. I made my feelings known and mother-in-law gave him a bolloking as well. I am so upset by this for many reasons but the main one I'm worried about is how to 'brush his teeth'. Obviously he hasn't got any yet but I know sugar can damage gums.
I don't have a baby toothbrush and as it's bank holiday I can't ask health visitor for advice so I'm reaching out to you. Does anyone have experience with this or know what I can do?

Save this thread to look back on in future years OP, honestly, it'll be funny to you too at some point.

My DS was in intensive care for three weeks after he was born, they gave him sugar water before every procedure / blood test etc to relax him. Standard in baby ITU care.
Stop stressing!

Bluerussian · 26/05/2019 23:15

It will do no harm.

TheSheepofWallSt · 26/05/2019 23:16

This is excellent.
OP there’s a woman on another thread who unknowingly had her drink spiked with cocaine, went home and breastfed her baby, before the cunt that did it confessed.
SHE has something to worry about.
You need to take a deep breath and stop worrying about teeth that do not yet exist.

Fatted · 26/05/2019 23:16

Back in the dark ages (ie the 1980s) people actually weaned their children and gave them food at 3 months old.

strawberrypenguin · 26/05/2019 23:21

Don't worry about it. Won't have done baby any harm to have a small taste.
You can't brush teeth they don't have yet - milk causes tooth decay too you know.

BrutusMcDogface · 26/05/2019 23:22

🤣🤣🤣

Pomegranatepompom · 26/05/2019 23:24

Really won't have harmed the baby. Try not to worry.

SleepingStandingUp · 26/05/2019 23:25

Nurses used to give my nbm neonate liquid sugar when he had bloods, your baby will be fine x

BumbleBeee69 · 26/05/2019 23:26

I flippin love Mumsnet Grin Grin Grin

Quintella · 26/05/2019 23:27

A decade of the rosary will fix it.

Bunnybigears · 26/05/2019 23:27

Your baby will be absolutely fine. Babies sucking on bottles full of full sugar squash may have an issue with sugar on their gums. Your baby does not.

Grin ‘Brushing invisible teeth’!

Honestly OP, you’ll think fondly of this the first time DC eats a handful of stones in the playground.

SusieOwl4 · 26/05/2019 23:33

My mother was born prematurely and weaned on carnation milk and her cot was a drawer in a dresser . Don’t worry , the baby will be fine .

starzig · 26/05/2019 23:34

Scrub those gums with a wire brush for at least an hour.
Or perhaps they could rinse with dome peroxide to neutralise the acid.

DockerDre · 26/05/2019 23:34

I think you could in your imagination, swish a mouthwash around his non-teeth.

HopeGarden · 26/05/2019 23:35

One taste of ice cream will be fine.

DS1 was in SCBU for a few weeks after he was born, and he was given sugary water before blood tests. Apparently it acts as a painkiller for newborns.

chuckyeggtimestwo · 26/05/2019 23:36

I cant help thinking this is a joke?
OP - i started giving mine pureed fruit at 4 months!

Quintella · 26/05/2019 23:36

You must dress up as Marcel Marceau before brushing the invisible teeth

lucymegan · 26/05/2019 23:36

😂😂😂😂

ballsdeep · 26/05/2019 23:37

God forbid if he had a lick of a milky button
