My 4 month old ebf baby hasn't pooped in 5 days. He doesn't seem uncomfortable, how can I help him go! Tried bicycle legs and tummy massages. Thanks!!

I don't think that's a problem. If I remember correctly, breast milk is such an efficient food that ebf babies older than a few weeks can quite easily go several days without having enough waste to need to poo. Especially if he's not uncomfortable I shouldn't worry.

My 6 month old has always had issues with constipation, at 4 months we would give him a couple tea spoons of prune juice diluted with water 50/50. This always helped and was recommended by hv. Smile

Up to 10 days is fine for ebf baby

Yeah, if he's not uncomfortable then just keep feeding. Bf DD had several periods of between 7-10 days of not pooing. The first couple can be a bit nerve wracking but just enjoy thek lack of gross nappies!

Have you tried tummy time- sometimes the body weight on the tummy can help. Also a bit of Vaseline around baby’s bottom to ease when they actually do go.

They can go days without going. Bicycle legs, tummy massage, gently pushing legs towards tummy all helped as did a nice warm bath. Prepare for a big one when it does happen!

My 4 month old is on his 10th day without a poo (BF).
Gave him a long soak in the bath today - lots of kicking and bicycle legs too. He has moments of being uncomfortable- hoping something comes soon- no doubt an explosion hehe x

Thanks everyone, we have just had a rather large and smelly poo. The tips worked a treat!

Cooled boiled water helps my baby. Maybe just an ounce in a bottle.

Probably goes against all the rules but works for us.
