Hi, can anyone help?

My 8 month old fell off my bed onto a wooden floor at 12:30pm. He's ok I think, has a little red mark on the side of his head though. I kept him up till 1:30pm but it's nap time and he was wreaked, so I've let him go to bed.

Is this right? What should I do? He was in ok form after it but I'm terrified I'm doing the wrong thing.....

If he didn't knock himslef out and cried straight away then he should be fine. Was he ok before he went to bed?

Tigana · 20/07/2007 13:54

I think you'll be okay.
It is so scary when they hit their heads though isn't it?

RubySlippers · 20/07/2007 13:54

check on him every few minutes
if he was ok before his sleep?
was he sick?

did he knock self out? was he sick afterwards? is he extra sleepy? disorientated? if none of above i wd say prob fine and keep an eye.

cd call nhs direct but they always over-cautious ime. if you go to casualty they will do head xray - we did this (smaller baby, was sick straight after fall) and trauma of holding her down for xray was much worse than fall.

sorry txt spk, bf

Ds fell off an armchair onto a carpeted floor when he was about 6/7 months and was absolutely fine. It's very scary, but I think they're more robust than they look. As long as he didn't lose consciousness, best treatment is lots of TLC!

Agree -- if he didn't knock himself out and seemed his normal self afterwards then you've done the right thing. We've most of us been there.

my dh dropped my dd at 9 months old while coming down stairs. He slipped and went to grab hand rail which was the side he was carrying my dd on (would a mother do that???) Landed onto wooden floor on her head. She was fine, although we did bring her to casualty. She is now 4 and it still freaks me out! But to answer your question - she was fine, its her mother who has long term damage!! Your lo didn't have as far to fall, so I'm sure fine too.

Thanks everyone.

He didn't knock himself out and wasn't sick. Just had a very sad cry for a few minutes, I felt awful!!!

I have him in bed but the door is open and I've checked on him lots!! I've even nearly woken him checking on him the last time. Will keep an eye on him for the day.

The doctor is closed for lunch but should be open now, so I might just call and tell them what happened, just to be sure....

Thanks for the reassurance all.
