Going straight from ebf to sippy cup

My little one is 9 months and still ebf. I will be returning to work soon and DC will be going to nursery. I've tried a bottle but DC has no idea how to get the milk out. DC is used to water in a free flow sippy cup for meals, so I thought providing milk, either breast or formula, in a sippy cup might work. Has anyone else gone from ebf to sippy cup, skipping the bottle?

That's what I did with both of mine. No issues at all.

AppropriateAdult · 19/05/2019 20:37

Never used a bottle here. Still breastfeeding and has water in a sippy cup, no issues.

Had a bottle refuser so we used sippy cup when I went back to work, I did get a different colour one for milk.

Crunched · 19/05/2019 20:41

Did the same at around 12 months.
Three DC and never owned a bottle.

Thanks all for your replies. It is a relief to hear that this worked for you all. Sippy cup it is then! Grin

Yes, perfectly fine to use a soppy cup for milk. There is no need for a bottle if the child can use a cup.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 19/05/2019 20:54

Yes mine went from breast to open cup too. I was very sceptical myself but my DM insisted he would manage fine and she was right.

She also had him using a spoon competently at a very young age.

museumum · 19/05/2019 21:02

Yes. Absolutely. It was stressful at 5/6mo when he wouldn’t take bottles but bloody brilliant at 12+ months when everyone else was struggling to phase bottles out and we had no issues.

Orangedaisy · 19/05/2019 21:03

No bottles here either. Straight to sippy and open cups, latter worked best.

Rosebud1302 · 19/05/2019 21:41

Another bottle refuser here so went straight to cup. He likes all sorts now and will take both milk and water out of most cups. So relieved I don't have to worry about phasing bottles out!

Peeeas · 19/05/2019 21:43

Us too! He didn't like sippy cups either, but doidy cups worked a treat.

Starlight456 · 19/05/2019 21:45

I did the same my Ds would not drink from a bottle

Ragwort · 19/05/2019 21:46

Yes, so easy, I have an irrational dislike of bottles for babies over 6 months & was determined never to use them so just offered DS his drinks in a cup & it was fine.

Amara123 · 19/05/2019 21:49

I'm doing this too, have been using the munchkin latch 360 and also their sippy intermediate cup. Mine totally bottle refused so I started with these when he was 6 months. He's getting better all the time (7 months now). Not worth the bother of bottles at this point at all.

HarrietM87 · 19/05/2019 22:13

Same here, and I was also worried. My baby has never had a bottle or a sippy cup - used a doidy for water from 6 months and now at 14 months drinks all drinks from an open cup. I’ve only just stopped breastfeeding.

mindutopia · 20/05/2019 06:57

Yes, it was perfectly fine. Mine now only has milk from a cup at bedtime as well (and I just bf in the mornings, from about 13 months). It was really easy. Actually it was much easier than convincing my first one who was ff to drink milk from a cup.
