Any advice for 5 week old with cold?

My ds has just got my dd's cold she caught at nursery. Please can you give any advice on how to treat him? Obviously I'm aware he's too young for calpol or anything like that.

He should be absolutely fine, if a little pissed off at not being able to breathe!

Raise the head of the cot/crib/Moses basket to aid stuffy noses. You can use saline drops to help clear it a bit, and invest in a snot sucker! Pretty grim but they do help loads.

Make sure he’s drinking plenty of milk, has lots of wet and dirty nappies and his fontanelle isn’t sunken. Keep an eye on temp and dress/undress him accordingly. And if you’re worried at all give 111 a call. It’s always better to err on the side of caution with tiny newborns. Hope it passes quickly for you both!

Thanks @MustardScreams! Will invest in a snot sucker today. Hopefully he feels better soon. Horrible seeing little ones poorly and you can't do much more than cuddle them to comfort them.

Sterimar do a saline nasal spray that is very good and suitable for tiny babies. You should be able to get it in Boots etc.

Snuffle babes helped my LO. It's like a baby Vic's type rub. Hope they get well soon! Is he drinking ok?

Nasal spray, snuffle babe and lots of cuddles. Raise the head end of his cot if you can.

Poor baby ☹️ mine kept on getting colds when she was just weeks old too. I used Calpol saline spray and a Nose Frieda to clear her nose out, worked really well. Hope he gets better soon x

Thanks for the replies and kind messages. He's drinking really well but he's a big eater so that's the norm. Just very sniffly and a few coughs. He's a resilient chap though so he's mostly sleeping through it. Fingers crossed he sleeps it out of him.
