10 month old suddenly using me as dummy all night

Hi there - just wondering why this is happening really. We’ve always co slept and I breastfeed and generally when he is fine (eg no cold or no teething) he sleeps through with an occasional pop on the breast for milk in his sleep. All fine.

The last 2 nights he has refused to sleep soundly unless cuddling me and having a breast in his mouth, and I mean for hours on end. I’m still able to sleep (not wonderfully though but that’s motherhood isn’t it 😁) however I am more concerned about why he is suddenly doing this but is otherwise fine! He didn’t do this with teething or colds either.

Mine went through stages of sleeping with my boob in their mouth - i wonder if some teeth hurt more than others? My money is still on teeth, or maybe a little under the weather. I wouldn’t worry about the dummy.

Sorry, it would be better if they did have a dummy and not you - one of mine wouldn’t take one though and I’m guessing yours won’t either. Do they have a teddy/little snuggly? Time to start introducing something like that so they’ll eventually sleep on their own maybe?

Mine are 8 and 4 and it’s amazing what you miss!

I have never tried giving him a dummy - I’m not keen on them, and I don’t want to so not an option

I don’t want him to stop sleeping with me yet either - I’m more just thinking about what the underlying cause is

Yes, perhaps the teeth are somehow still effecting him. It’s the top ones and although they are through they haven’t finished growing yet

Maybe someone will have better ideas but I can’t think of another cause except teeth or feeling unwell. If you’ve made it this far you don’t need a dummy now!

Thank you though - will assume it’s teeth and will pass! I can’t think he will do it forever if it’s a new development!
