DD will be 4 at end of June. I go on the 4 present basis of; Something she wants, something she needs, something to wear, something to read.

She really wants a specific playmobil set so I've bought that with a few extra characters to go in it
She really loves a specific animal so I bought her a TShirt with that animal on

She doesn't particularly need anything so struggling for "something she needs".

Also need suggestions for good books for a 4 year old?

She will also get a bag of her favourite sweets, and a day out with me. Plus presents and another day out from her father, so she's in no way deprived.

Any suggestions for need and read?

Does she not 'need' any outdoor summer toys?
Such as:

  • paddling pool, scooter, bubble machine, play-tent, bicycle, giant quoits, frisbee, stomp rocket, pavement chalks

Books. Sorry can't think back that far. Suggest you look at TheBookPeople.

We don't have a garden so outdoor toys aren't really necessary.

Will she be starting school soon ? Does she need a nice school bag, lunch box, PE bag, rain coat..?

Yes she starts school in September, coat is a good idea as we'll be walking to school, as is a new school bag, thank you!

You must go to the park sometime though? Stomp rockets are fun and light to carry. Bubble machines are battery operated. All children need a bike/scooter imo.

A coat or bag in June for school in September seems a bit mean to me as neither can be used immediately.

NotMamaBearMamaPigeon · 11/05/2019 17:45

She has a bike and scooter both here and at her dads neither of which she uses much. So I don't see us using other outdoor toys.

Books for 4yr old would be Julia Donaldson ones, the oi cat/ oi dog range, if starting school in Sept possibly some phonics books to give a headstart for reading.

Zog is a great book.

Will she need new sandals for the summer? Or beach/swimwear if you're going on holiday or to the swimming baths? Or a summer frock or shorts?

RicStar · 11/05/2019 17:54

What about a sticker / activity book - usborne or a character she likes - something you can do together. My 4 year old ds likes mosaic stickers but he is nearly 5 now. (I am assuming she has some picture books and will get reading books from school). My dd 7 gets excited by books as presents but at 4 I don't think she would have done.

NotMamaBearMamaPigeon · 11/05/2019 17:55

We are going on holiday in August so some sandals or a new beach towel might be good. She has swimsuits but a posh new one for our holiday would go down well as well. Thank you.

She loves reading with me, and I really don't mind if it's a book we read together.

She does love sticker books too, and have a home bargains nearby so could have a look in there.
