Ranitidine

Hi, hoping someone can help. We have been in ranitidine for last two days due to reflux. The reflux doesn't make her cry but she dribbles a lot, blows a lot of
Bubbles and seems
Uncomfortable. It's more silent reflux. Since the ranitidine she hadn't been as settled and keeps going a shrill cry, but she hasn't been sick at all. Is it worth bearing with to see if it improves or better off with none? Not sure if this is a usual reaction initially? Thanks in advance x

How long has she been on the ranitidine?

We didn’t have any issues with it - if it carries on you should definitely speak to your dr.

@FartnissEverbeans this is the third day. Just not sure if it's making it worse and to stop it or whether it's teething and coincides Confused

I've read that for some babies it gets worse before it gets better. It seemed that way with us. We saw a gradual improvement from about day 7, and then at day 10 I was certain he was doing better. It's a long hard wait for a silent reflux baby though.

Are you doing anything else, like upright sleeping, smaller feeds, dairy free milk etc?

How old is LO and how likely is teething?

@Liland thank you, yeah I'm not sure whether it could be teething as she's chewing her hands like mad. She's 5.5 months.

She has CMPA and I'm breastfeeding but cut out all dairy and soy since January so not that.

I'm hoping it will get better when she starts weaning in a few weeks x

That's interesting, how did you get that diagnosed before the reflux meds were started?! We have cmpa milk now as well, but only after about 4 weeks on ranatidine. And he's moved onto omeprazole now.

No idea about the teething as LO has been hand chewing like crazy for a month now but is only 14 weeks. Definitely no teeth coming through here. Makes himself sick with his fingers though unless I mitten him.

I'd say give it 7 days. I expect the drs wont review it for 14 days anyway as it takes a while to kick in fully?

@Liland my LO wasn't gaining weight after being discharged and had mucus nappies and was very colicky. The peadrician we were under (as she was prem) suggested cutting it out and was instant improvement and suddenly thriving weight wise etc! I had milk one day in a tea made for me by accident and she had instant reaction after couple of hours so that confirmed it. She doesn't actually cry that much with reflux alone so might just try no mediciation again. My LO was chewing hands around same time as yours and then stopped and then just started again this week x

Ahh ok. Weve had the mucus nappies for about a month now but they coincided with excessive drooling so I'm putting it down to that as we already have allergy milk.

I'd stick with it for a week. After that you should hopefully see some improvement :)
