What type of potty is best?

What type of potty is best...cheap and cheerful, chair/seat thing or straight on to toilet seat extension thing?

I used a potty to start and it was too small for my 2.7 yo. So basically I wouldn't bother with one of those. I then bought a potty chair which he used for about a month, (great thing) before progressing onto a toilet seat.

worked well

might be different for a girl, but boys need reasonable size or wee just goes straight over the edge!
