5 year old emotions

Hi. My 5 year old DS has just started what I can only describe as tantrums. He loses control over the smallest thing, cries, shouts, gets angry etc. It's over a whole range of things, frustration, anger, sadness so not one particular emotion. We have always been able to talk him round or calm him down until now (although we've never experienced anything like this before). He's always loved school but now he is doing the same at school and the teacher is having to drag him off us in the mornings which is horrible for all of us. We've tried talking to him to figure out what's changed but can't get to the bottom of it but he says (and the teacher confirms) that school is not a problem. Can anyone offer any advice or any books that we can read about coping with emotions? TIA x

My nearly six year old dd is starting with this. They are just struggling to deal with a new kind of depth to their emotions. It’s wearing really thin with me tbh! She has a deep sense of injustice at the moment, every thing and every one is being mean to her. Tears over the smallest thing. She normally is very mild tempered.

However it will pass! Wait till the moody sulking, not talking phase starts - that’s a real joy! My eldest is 24 and I swear it comes in mile stone cycles.
