My mil just used poultry scissors to cut open my son pacifiers, washed them and put them in my baby sterilizer machine with all his other bottles. I use those scissors on raw chicken. I haven’t in awhile but still... what should I do?!?! Do I need to throw everything away? Should I not give him a bottle all my bottles are in there?!? Please tell me what I should do! Are they ok to use?!?

sterilizer machine’s kill bacteria so no issue to bottles

Expressedways · 26/04/2019 02:31

Not sure I understand? Wtf are poultry scissors? If she used them on raw chicken then on the pacifier packets without washing them first then have a word about kitchen hygiene but everything has been sterilised so no harm done. The steriliser exists to kill germs. If the scissors haven’t been used on chicken recently and were clean then I don’t understand this at all. Give the baby a bottle if they’re hungry. No you don’t need to chuck anything out.

And you sound really anxious, do you think you might be suffering from PND? Can you call your doctor (or health visitor if in the U.K.) and make an appointment tomorrow? Please take care of yourself.

There kitchen scissors I only use on chicken. They were clean I guess stored with the knives, I haven’t used them in awhile.

There's nothing to worry about and your baby will be absolutely fine - everything has been sterilised and is perfectly safe 🙂

How old is your baby OP?

Alicewond · 26/04/2019 02:42

I don’t understand what you MIL had done wrong other than use and wash a pair of scissors which were mixed with other utensils? The bottles are sterilised now so what harm has been done??

Ns19 · 26/04/2019 02:43

Thank you he’s only 5 months

I just would never think to use kitchen scissors used on raw meat to cut open baby products. I also don’t know if the scissors have been washed recently I haven’t used them in a long time they’ve just been sitting in the drawer.

Yes they're fine. They have been sterilised. They'd have been fine even if the stuff hadn't been through the steriliser.

Ns19 · 26/04/2019 02:47

Ok thank you I just don’t want anything to happen to my son

op any raw chicken bacteria would be dead and dehydrated. bacteria wouldn't come to life when the scissors activated.
not to mention they were washed before being put away.

Topseyt · 26/04/2019 02:54

If something is sterilised then that kills all bacteria. Why would you need to throw everything away?

dreichuplands · 26/04/2019 02:57

OP the only purpose of a sterilizer is to kill germs and make items safe to be put in a baby's mouth.
Regardless of any chicken contamination they are now safe due to sterilization.

Topseyt · 26/04/2019 02:57

Also, I cut open everything with kitchen scissors. Never a problem. We are all still here decades on.

Ns19 · 26/04/2019 03:47

Yeah I just don’t know how well they were washed the scissors just look kinda old and rusty and I’m just not sure how “clean” they really are but the bacteria dying after awhile makes me feel better so thank you
